Udhampur: Welcoming Union Home Minister Amit Shah commitment to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across NDA-ruled States before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader and MLA Udhampur East R.S. Pathania said that UCC is not merely a political agenda of the BJP, but has a clear constitutional foundation.
“Article 44 reflects the vision of our Constitution-makers, who mandated the State to endeavour to secure a Uniform Civil Code for all citizens across India. Unfortunately, for decades, vote-bank politics overshadowed this constitutional direction,” Pathania said.
He said the renewed commitment to UCC represents a decisive step towards equal citizenship, uniform civil rights and justice without discrimination.
“India cannot have different civil laws for citizens on the basis of religion. The time has come to realise the constitutional vision of our founding fathers,” he added.
