JAMMU, Aug 27: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into a viral video purportedly showing a female employee making objectionable remarks against India, while stating that a show-cause notice would be issued to her.
FCI General Manager I K Choudhary said the matter had been taken seriously and that efforts were underway to establish whether the woman shown in the video was an FCI employee and whether the voice in the clip belonged to her.
The woman is believed to be a manager or quality control official with the FCI. In the video, she is purportedly heard making remarks about Kashmir and questioning the impact of government employment on a person's political views.
Choudhary said a show-cause notice would be issued to the woman on Thursday, seeking her response, after which a detailed inquiry would be conducted.
“If she admits that the video is hers, or if the probe establishes that she was the person seen in the video, we will take the strictest possible action,” he said.
He added that the corporation carries out police verification of its employees and that appropriate action would follow if the investigation confirms both the woman's identity and the authenticity of the remarks.
However, Choudhary cautioned that it would be premature to draw any conclusions before the inquiry establishes whether the video and voice are genuine.
The purported remarks have triggered a debate on social media, particularly because the woman is believed to be a Central government employee.
The authenticity of the video and the identity of the woman featured in it could not be independently verified.
