Army Goodwill Schools Illuminate the Future of Jammu and Kashmir’s Youth

Army Goodwill Schools across Jammu and Kashmir are steadily nurturing a new generation of confident, innovative, and high-achieving young people. Under the Indian Army’s Operation Sadbhavana, these institutions are providing quality education, modern learning environments, and opportunities that help students realise their full potential and step forward with pride.

The network of schools educates thousands of children, including a strong proportion of girls, with dedicated teachers and contemporary facilities such as smart classrooms, science laboratories, and exposure to robotics and artificial intelligence. A long-standing partnership with the Bharti Airtel Foundation has further strengthened teaching practices, digital learning, and student innovation clubs. Over the years the collaboration has grown from a select group of schools to supporting the entire network, enabling more than 160 student-led projects and opening doors to national platforms including ISRO YUVIKA, INSPIRE-MANAK, and Young Scientist India. New initiatives announced in recent months include additional library resources, sports coaching, more smart classrooms, scholarships for higher education, and cash incentives for meritorious students of Classes 10 and 12.

Recent recognitions highlight the schools’ growing impact. Army Goodwill School Wuzur in Anantnag was shortlisted among the World’s Top 10 schools globally in the Innovation category of T4 Education’s World’s Best School Prizes 2026. Selected from thousands of nominations worldwide, the school has earned praise for its student-centric approach and Innovation Club. Students there have developed practical projects such as IoT-based home automation systems, automatic irrigation solutions, and useful applications that address everyday needs. These efforts have also led to strong performances in national science competitions, with the school securing high positions in Young Scientist India. Education Minister Sakeena Itoo and other officials have publicly congratulated the school, describing the recognition as a significant milestone for the Union Territory and a reflection of the creativity and problem-solving skills being nurtured among students.

AGS Uri earned the top rank in Baramulla district in the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2026–27 and was invited to the national awards ceremony in New Delhi. The school has also placed among the top institutions nationally in Young Scientist India. School authorities credit the collective efforts of management, teachers, students, and parents, along with supportive partners, for creating an environment that encourages both academic excellence and overall development.

AGS Trehgam in Kupwara received the ARISE Excellence Award 2026 in the category of Excellence in Continuous Professional Development for Teachers. The award recognises the school’s sustained focus on strengthening teaching practices. In a further step to support student aspirations, the school has launched affordable coaching for NEET aspirants, offering both online and offline options to help deserving local students prepare for medical entrance examinations.

Students of AGS Bandipora secured gold medals in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2025 organised by Edu.Harbour in Germany. Class 9 students Madiha Bhat and Shaiq Shah won gold, while other participants earned silver and bronze. The achievement placed the school as the only one among Army Goodwill and Army Public Schools in India, and the only school from Jammu and Kashmir, to win gold at this international platform. The success has been attributed to the school’s Astronomy Club, dedicated mentors, and the encouragement provided by the Bharti Airtel Foundation.

Individual excellence continues to shine across the network. Class 10 student Ehsaan Nazir of Rana Army Goodwill School Hajin secured second place nationally at the GYS Avishkar Awards 2026 with his innovative “Grafting Probe Tester” project. Competing against more than 950 entries from 25 states, he received a cash prize of ₹25,000. The recognition has been widely celebrated as an example of the scientific curiosity being fostered in the schools. Board examination results across multiple institutions reflect high pass percentages and numerous distinctions. Rana AGS Hajin recorded a strong performance in the Class 10 examinations, with a large majority of students qualifying and several scoring above 90 percent, including a school topper who achieved 98.8 percent. AGS Wayne in Kupwara has reported excellent Class 10 and 12 results, with students securing high percentages and the school maintaining a consistent record of strong academic outcomes. Students from various AGS regularly qualify for medical and engineering entrance examinations, opening pathways to higher education and professional careers.

At a recent celebration of the Army’s educational partnership held at Army Goodwill Public School, Pahalgam, senior leadership emphasised that the success of students is a source of pride. Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, encouraged students to set ambitious goals and remain committed to achieving them, while acknowledging the role of teachers and parents. Representatives of the Bharti Airtel Foundation reaffirmed continued support and announced further measures to enhance learning opportunities. Mrs Shinei Sharma, Regional President of the Army Wives Welfare Association, motivated students and called upon teachers and parents to nurture them for future challenges.

Beyond academics, the schools emphasise sports, cultural programmes, and character-building activities. Annual days feature vibrant performances that reflect unity and cultural harmony, while innovation festivals such as the one hosted at Rana AGS Hajin bring together students from multiple schools to showcase projects and ideas. These events create platforms for young people to develop confidence, teamwork, and a sense of achievement. Parents express satisfaction with the facilities and the academic standards maintained, and school authorities consistently credit the disciplined yet encouraging atmosphere for helping students grow into well-rounded individuals.

Through consistent support for innovation, teacher capacity-building, and student aspirations, Army Goodwill Schools are contributing meaningfully to the educational landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. The classrooms of today are equipping young minds with skills, confidence, and the belief that they can excel and contribute to the nation’s progress. As more students step forward with their achievements, the schools continue to stand as vibrant centres of learning and opportunity.
