SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla district seized six vehicles during a special enforcement drive in Tangmarg following complaints of harassment and overcharging of tourists and visitors, officials said.
The vehicles, including Sumos and auto-rickshaws, were found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and were seized under relevant legal provisions, police said.
The enforcement drive was conducted in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tangmarg as part of efforts to ensure safe, fair and hassle-free travel for tourists and visitors.
Police said the action was also aimed at curbing practices that could adversely affect the tourism environment in the area.
"During the drive, six vehicles found involved in violations were seized under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act," police said.
The police warned vehicle operators and others against harassing, overcharging or exploiting tourists and visitors.
Such violations will not be tolerated, and enforcement measures will continue, police said, adding that strict action would be taken against those found violating the law.
Tangmarg is an important tourist transit point in north Kashmir and serves as a gateway to the popular Gulmarg tourist destination.
The police said the enforcement drive was intended to reinforce compliance with traffic and transport regulations while ensuring a safe and visitor-friendly environment for tourists visiting the region.
