Russia Welcomes India’s Efforts for Peaceful Ukraine Resolution: Peskov

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 08: Russia on Tuesday said it would welcome any efforts by India to seek a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noting that Moscow’s position broadly aligns with that of New Delhi.

Peskov also said Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.

“We know the position of India on Ukrainian conflict, and to a great extent, it corresponds with our own position,” Peskov said during an online briefing from Moscow.

He said Russia wanted the Ukraine conflict to be resolved through peaceful means and would welcome India’s efforts in that direction.

Reacting to a proposed US move to impose 100 per cent tariffs on countries purchasing Russian crude oil, Peskov termed the measure “illegal and unacceptable”.

He also said Russia was awaiting negotiations with India on setting up new nuclear power plants.

Discussions on the possible sale of Russia’s Su-57 fighter aircraft to India are also on the agenda, Peskov added.
