NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 18: India's net direct tax collection increased by 13 per cent to more than ₹12.12 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17 of the current financial year, according to data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Friday.
The rise was driven largely by stronger advance tax collections during the period.
According to the data, corporate tax collections increased by 19.48 per cent to around ₹5.56 lakh crore, while collections from non-corporate taxpayers, including individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), rose by 6 per cent to more than ₹6.16 lakh crore.
Collections from Securities Transaction Tax (STT) also recorded significant growth, rising by 53 per cent to ₹40,214 crore during the period.
Meanwhile, the government issued refunds worth more than ₹2.20 lakh crore, registering an increase of 29.19 per cent compared with the corresponding period.
The data showed that gross direct tax collection grew by 15 per cent to over ₹14.32 lakh crore till September 17.
Advance tax collections stood at around ₹5.22 lakh crore, registering a growth of 16.18 per cent.
Advance corporate tax payments increased by 18 per cent to more than ₹4.16 lakh crore, while advance tax payments by non-corporate taxpayers rose by 9.24 per cent to around ₹1.06 lakh crore.
The latest figures indicate continued growth in direct tax collections during the first half of the current financial year, supported by higher advance tax payments and increased collections from various categories of taxpayers.
