JAMMU, Sep 23: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh on his birth anniversary, recalling his contribution to social reform and public welfare.
In a post on X, Sinha described Maharaja Hari Singh as an "enlightened statesman and progressive thinker" who introduced several far-reaching reforms aimed at the welfare and empowerment of the people.
"His ideals of public service, equality and inclusive development continue to guide us all," the Lieutenant Governor said.
Sinha highlighted the former ruler's reform-oriented approach, particularly his emphasis on improving the social and economic conditions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruling Maharaja of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, is remembered for introducing a number of administrative and social reforms during his reign. His birth anniversary is observed as a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Lieutenant Governor said the principles associated with Maharaja Hari Singh's public life continue to hold relevance in the pursuit of equitable development and social empowerment.
He also paid homage to the Maharaja and acknowledged his role in shaping institutions and governance in the erstwhile state.
Maharaja Hari Singh was born on September 23, 1895, and succeeded to the throne in 1925. During his reign, several measures were introduced in areas including education, administration and social reform.
His legacy remains a subject of public discussion in Jammu and Kashmir, with political leaders and civil society groups marking his birth anniversary through commemorative programmes and tributes.
The Lieutenant Governor's message came as people across Jammu and Kashmir observed the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh with various events and programmes.
