LEH/JAMMU, October 23: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Ladakh, Rahul Sharma, on Friday announced that elections to the municipal committees of Leh and Kargil will be held on November 21.
The elections will cover a total of 38 wards, including 21 wards in the Leh Municipal Committee and 17 wards in the Kargil Municipal Committee.
According to a press note issued by Sharma, the electoral rolls for both municipal committees were published on Thursday, with October 1 fixed as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.
The upcoming elections come after the completion of the terms of both municipal bodies. The last municipal and panchayat elections in Ladakh were held in 2018, when the region was part of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The announcement marks an important step towards electing new representatives to the municipal bodies in Leh and Kargil.
