'Jungle raj in Punjab': State BJP chief Dhillon demands AAP govt's resignation

Chandigarh, Oct 27: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Tuesday for the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state, branding it a failure on every front.

He claimed that the people of Punjab are in constant fear, with the rule of law seemingly replaced by a "jungle raj."

Dhillon pointed out that there have been several shooting incidents across the state in recent days, resulting in multiple fatalities.

He referenced various incidents, including the killing of the son of an AAP sarpanch by unidentified assailants who opened fire outside a gurdwara in Chite Kalan village, Amritsar district, on Monday night. He also mentioned a double murder that occurred in Moga on Sunday, among other events.

According to Dhillon, these incidents are not isolated but have become a daily reality in Punjab. He demanded that the government take responsibility and resign.

"As many as 18 murders have reportedly taken place in October alone so far. Businesspeople are falling victim to extortion; young people are being killed in broad daylight. The police are also under threat, with six police personnel having lost their lives and police stations coming under attack. When even those responsible for protecting the law are not safe, who can ordinary citizens turn to for protection?" he asked in a statement.

Dhillon questioned who would take responsibility: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann or the "Super CM," Arvind Kejriwal.

He alleged that Kejriwal has been absent from public events in Punjab since the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, even though, according to Dhillon, all decisions concerning Punjab are being made by Kejriwal.

He further claimed that the AAP government has failed on all fronts during its four-and-a-half years in power. Punjab, he asserted, needs accountability "rather than false statements and publicity campaigns."

With Punjab elections scheduled for early next year, Dhillon declared that it is time for the state to rid itself of this government.

He added that the people of Punjab would no longer tolerate what he deemed an ineffective government.
