NEW DELHI, SEPT 16: India on Wednesday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires (CDA) and lodged a strong protest over what the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described as the “unacceptable and unprofessional” conduct of a Pakistan Navy vessel that resulted in a collision with an Indian Navy ship in the Arabian Sea.
The MEA said the incident took place in international waters and did not result in any major damage. However, India conveyed its concerns to the Pakistani diplomat over the conduct of the naval unit.
According to the MEA, the Pakistani CDA was asked to convey to the concerned authorities in Pakistan the need for all military units to exercise due caution at sea and adhere to relevant agreements between the two countries.
India said the incident was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements.
The MEA emphasised the importance of following established protocols and exercising due care to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, India’s Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The diplomatic action comes against the backdrop of heightened sensitivity between the two countries, with New Delhi stressing the need for military units to follow agreed procedures and avoid incidents that could create further tensions.
