UJJAIN, SEPTEMBER 18: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said he was pleased to see members of Generation Z engaging in discussions on ‘dharm’ at a time when the subject is sometimes viewed as being associated mainly with older generations.
Addressing around 1,700 young participants at the Yuva Dharm Sansad in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Bhagwat said ‘dharm’ is reflected in a person's conduct and actions and is deeply rooted in Indian thought.
He said ‘dharm’ should be understood as something broader than religion, adding that while religion may create a sense of belonging, ‘dharm’ guides individuals towards liberation or moksha.
Bhagwat also urged the young participants to approach the subject without preconceived notions and said those seeking to understand ‘dharm’ should be willing to examine their existing beliefs and assumptions.
Speaking about environmental concerns, he said what he described as adharm contributes to issues such as deforestation and can ultimately pose a threat to human existence.
The three-day Yuva Dharm Sansad has brought together around 300 scholars, teachers, researchers and religious leaders, according to the organisers.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is scheduled to attend the concluding session of the event on September 19.
Organisers said this is the sixth edition of the Yuva Dharma Sansad. Previous editions were held in Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar and Kanchipuram. The next edition is scheduled to be held in Dwarka.
