Drone Activity Near Amritsar Airport Forces Diversion of Seven Flights

Amritsar, Sept 7: The movement of multiple suspected drones near the operational area of Amritsar international airport late Sunday night prompted authorities to suspend flight operations and divert seven flights, including two international services, an official said on Monday.

The suspected drone activity was detected at around 10 pm near the runway area, triggering an immediate security response. The Punjab Police and other central security agencies were alerted following the detection.

Shri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport Director Anirudh Kumar said multiple drone-like objects were seen hovering around the airport's operational area, following which the police were informed.

Flight operations remained suspended for nearly one-and-a-half hours as security agencies assessed the situation and took precautionary measures.

The official said the suspicious activity was detected in close proximity to the runway area, prompting heightened security at the airport.
