DGP Nalin Prabhat Announces Martyrs Memorial Football, Hockey Tournaments In J&K

SRINAGAR, October 29: Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat on Thursday paid tribute to 1,621 police martyrs, saying their sacrifices continue to inspire the force’s efforts to promote peace and encourage young people to engage in constructive activities.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cycle race organised by J&K Police at the Police Golf Course near Dal Lake, Prabhat announced that Martyrs Memorial football and hockey tournaments would be organised in honour of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The DGP said the sacrifices of police martyrs remained a lasting source of inspiration, while sporting events played an important role in promoting discipline, physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among young people.

Highlighting the benefits of cycling, he said the activity not only improved fitness but also helped instil discipline. He added that participation in sports could encourage youngsters to reduce mobile phone addiction and excessive screen time.

Prabhat described youth as an important asset and the future of the nation, stressing that their aspirations and participation in productive activities were essential for the country's progress.

He said J&K Police remained committed to working closely with young people and supporting efforts to tackle social challenges, including drug abuse and gambling.

The DGP added that J&K Police, in coordination with the administration, was organising sports activities at the district level to encourage wider youth participation.

Referring to recent sporting events, he said the response to the Kashmir Marathon and ‘Jashn-e-Dal’ had been encouraging.

Prabhat said several sporting events were planned in the coming days, including the Martyrs Memorial football and hockey tournaments, to honour fallen police personnel and provide young people with opportunities to channel their energy into positive activities.
