JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 18: A birthday celebration turned tragic in the Lower Roop Nagar area of Jammu after a young man was allegedly killed following a dispute during a cake-cutting ceremony. Jammu Police have arrested two accused in connection with the incident within hours.
According to police, on September 17 at around 9 PM, Police Post GMC Jammu informed Police Station Janipur that Pawan Nair alias Sameer had been brought to GMC Jammu in an injured condition by his friends. The attending doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the information, a team from Police Station Janipur immediately reached GMC Jammu and initiated an inquiry.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Neeraj alias Anshu was celebrating his birthday roadside near Lower Roop Nagar. His friends, including Pawan Nair, John Sotra, Gaurav Singh and Sugandh Bhatti, were present at the celebration. Neeraj's brother, Rishu, was also accompanying him.
Police said that during the cake-cutting, Pawan allegedly applied cake on Neeraj's face, following which an argument broke out between the two.
When their friends attempted to intervene and pacify them, Neeraj allegedly became enraged, took out a khokhri he was carrying and attacked Pawan on the neck, causing serious injuries.
Pawan was immediately rushed to GMC Jammu, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Janipur and initiated an investigation.
Acting swiftly, police apprehended Neeraj alias Anshu and his brother Rishu, who are currently in police custody at Police Station Janipur. Police are also recovering the alleged weapon of offence.
The deceased's body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
Jammu Police said that strict and time-bound action will be taken in accordance with the law.
